Spotted knapweed, Centaurea stoebe, is a Eurasian invasive brought over to Michigan in 1911. It can be found in well-drained, sunny sites such as old fields, pastures, prairies, dunes, beaches, roadsides, and right-of-ways. Spotted knapweed has lactones which inhibit the growth and germination of nearby native plants, creating barren areas of only knapweed.
