Welding 100 year old cast iron. Yes welding, not brazing… I wanted to replace the broken foot on this big vise so I cut a piece of 3/4” plate, machined it down to 5/8 and then proceeded to weld it with 99% nickel stick welding electrode. I’ve done this process a few times and it’s always different. Trying to weld and get fusion with old porous cast iron is like welding sand. That being said it did eventually turn into something usable and after letting it cool it stayed together. No cracks, even
