The Michigan Wolverines are still hard at work trying to add critical pieces to their roster via the recruiting trail and the transfer portal ahead of the 2025

Jeff Persi started a handful of games — in 2022, he started against Rutgers, and in 2024, he started when Evan Link was dealing with injury, before Gentry took over. According to On3’s Pete Nakos, Persi has entered the transfer portal and will be a grad transfer.

Hattar, a Livonia Churchill product who transferred from Ferris State, is eager to test himself at the highest level of college football.

Michigan State, which posted a 5-7 record in Smith’s first season and lost 13 players to the portal, officially added 27 newcomers to the roster this week at the start of the spring semester. There are 11 early enrollees from the 2025 high school signing class and 16 transfers. “There was some positions of need. … We got that done,” Smith said.

Though the departure of Jeff Persi with 38 games played isn't ideal, it could signal Michigan Wolverines feel solid about reinforcements coming in.
