A storm is expected later this week, but instead of snow, the Kansas City area will experience rain due to the arrival of warmer temperatures, according to the National Weather Service in Kansas City. The warmer temperatures will also keep the metro from experiencing a rare event.

The National Weather Service issued a report at 8 a.m. on Thursday for fog and drizzle until 11 a.m. The alert is for Miami, Linn, Leavenworth, Wyandotte, Johnson, Jackson, Lafayette, Cass, Pettis, Bates and Henry counties.

Lyon, Coffey, Osage and Wabaunsee counties are in a dense fog advisory until 3 pm. Lyon, Chase, Coffey, Greenwood and Morris counties had been in an advisory earlier Thursday. The National Weather Service still expects rain through Thursday night. Up to 1.5 inches of rain is expected.
