A procession of hundreds of people holding candles walked through the streets of Paris to bring a famed statue of the Virgin Mary and child back to Notre-Dame Cathedral on Friday, five years after it was moved to a nearby church after a devastating fire.

In what is seen by the church of Paris as a triumphant return, the famous statue of the Virgin of the Pillar will be restored to her place in Notre Dame Cathedral Nov. 15.

Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, France, is returning to the public's arms more than five years after a fire in April 2019.According to the Associated Press,

"This celebration of the reopening of Notre-Dame deserves an octave: from December 8 to 15, each day, we will have a solemn celebration with a particular theme ", says the archbishop of Paris, who wants "the people of Paris to be present at these reopening celebrations ". Each morning, at 10:30 a.m., the archbishop will preside over a mass.

Five years after the devastating fire at Notre Dame in Paris, the cathedral will reopen in less than a month. During the restoration, many artifacts were discovered in the cathedral. NBC News' Kelly Cobiella reports.
