Tuna sold in 26 states and in Washington, D.C., was recalled over concerns that it may have been contaminated. The stores affected include Trader Joe’s, Genova, Van Camp’s and H-E-B.

The recalled products may not fully seal shut and may be contaminated with one of "the most lethal substances known," according to WHO.

WEDNESDAY, Feb. 12, 2025 (HealthDay News) -- A major recall of canned tuna sold in dozens of states has been issued amid concerns that a packaging defect could cause “a potentially fatal form of food poisoning,” the manufacturer said in a statement.

The recall was triggered by "a manufacturing defect that may compromise the integrity of the product seal (especially over time), causing it to leak, or worse, be contaminated with clostridium botulinum," the Food and Drug Administration ( FDA) said.

The voluntary recall over botulism fears also covers cans sold at Safeway, Harris Teeter, Costco and other major grocery stores in dozens of states.

Canned tuna sold in New York state is among products sold under various labels being voluntarily recalled nationwide due to possible risk of developing the bacteria that causes botulism, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said.
