A 44-year-old Pontiac man was killed Saturday morning when he was hit by an Amtrak train near Sixth and Center streets in Royal Oak, officials said.

Royal Oak police Lt. Albert Carter said a Canadian National freight train struck the Connor about 6:30 a.m. “He walked onto to the tracks and sat down,” Carter said.

Royal Oak police said no one struck by a train in the city in recent memory has ever survived the encounter. The train death of a Pontiac man, 23, on June 22 was ruled a suicide.
