Rusted-on laundry hoses ... Try to avoid cutting too deep, but dont worry if you nick the threads on the valve. The threads dont seal the connection. Thats taken care of by the rubber washer.

If so, I’ve got one word for you: Rubber. A couple of years ago I bought a “no-kink” vinyl hose from my local hardware store and it kinked even as I was uncoiling it from the packaging.
