It's been more than 15 years since the VA announced Louisville would receive a new hospital in June 2006, with U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell securing the first $75 million needed for the facility in 2008.
The plan is to replace the aging Robley Rex VA Medical Center on Zorn Avenue. The new facility will have more than 100 beds, which is equal to the current hospital, but will be twice the size.
