A federal judge has ruled against a man on Georgia’s death row who argued that lethal injection could cause him excruciating pain and suggested a firing squad as an alternative.

Michael Wade Nance, on Georgia's death row for a 1993 murder, argued that lethal injection could cause him severe pain due to his medical history and proposed a firing squad as an alternative.

Steven Lawayne Nelson, 37, was convicted for the 2011 killing of Rev. Clint Dobson and put to death on Wednesday.

Attorneys for Michael Wade Nance, who argued his compromised veins would make lethal injection painful, said they plan to appeal the ruling.
