He drove for a dunk, had a put-back dunk, hit a floater and a short jumper, and nailed many three-pointers. Wide-open threes, contested threes, step-back threes, ill-advised threes. It didn’t matter the variety. Almost all of them went in.

Despite losing by an 18-point deficit, Portland's 20-year-old Scoot Henderson dropped in a career-high 39 points against the Nets last night.

The Blazers guard had a career-high but that didn't make up for off nights from Anfernee Simons and Deandre Ayton.

The second-year guard established career-highs in points (39), field goals (13), and 3-pointers (eight), shooting 13-of-18 from the field and 5-of-8 from the foul line. Henderson was also responsible for four rebounds, six assists, and two steals in what qualifies as the best performance of his young NBA career.

Portland Trail Blazers guard Scoot Henderson has not met expectations over his first two seasons. But, a breakout performance against the Nets might be a turning point for the Blazers’ future floor general.

Portland's second-year guard, the No. 3 pick in the 2023 draft, made his fourth start of the season for the Blazers, who are dealing with a handful of injuries.
