The Kaufman County sheriff’s office says it is investigating after two people were shot near a Forney school Friday afternoon. Sheriff deputies and multiple assisting agencies responded to a shooting at around 2 p.m. in the 2000 block of Chisholm Trail, located close to Brown Middle School, officials say.

Several schools in the Windmill Farms area in Forney have been placed on lockdown because of a shooting not far from Brown Middle School on Friday afternoon.

The Texas Rangers are investigating a shooting involving a Kaufman County sheriff's deputy and a driver they say tried to run from a traffic stop.

KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — Police are investigating outside a Kaufman County middle school and nearby neighborhood after two people were shot Friday afternoon, officials said. According to police, two men were shot. Both were taken by helicopter to local hospitals, however, one has since died from his injuries.

North Forney High School, Brown Middle School, Smith Intermediate, Dewberry Elementary, Blackburn Elementary and Forney Learning Academy were placed in secure status. According to Forney ISD's website, that means exterior doors are locked and no one is allowed in or out of the campuses, but business inside should go on as usual.
