I think once you see it you will be happy to have paid the admission. The project is not supported by any government funds, only from the admission fees and donations from the public and visitors. Overall I was very impressed with the museum, the film and the tour to near the base of the monument. My wife and I found it quite interesting.

Yes you pay to get into the gate and then you pay for the van ride to the base of mountains where they are doing the carving. It is worth the extra money. The admission at the gate gets you into the museum, restaurant, and viewing deck of the mountain. You get your tickets at the gift shop.
